Story

In 2016 My Dad found out on the 30th June that he had Pancreatic Cancer, this was a huge shock and blow for my family as we had lost his brother to another form of cancer a few years earlier. After a short battle with cancer my Dad passed away on August 25th that same year.

During this time he was guided along the way by various teams and professionals, but the reason The Christie's was my choice for this event was a story I will never forget.

One night when my father was in his final few days, he was a little delirious from his medication. During this time me and the family were close by, he proclaimed one day at around 5pm, "I want a Rocket Lolly..... and a vodka coke". This gained a chuckle from me and the family around, as my father was know for never drinking alcohol. But we told him we didn't have any rocket lollies but we would bring him some the following day as visiting was only just started and we wanted to spend as much time with him as we could. Roll on a few hours later, the time was around 11pm, a male nurse came in with something for my Dad I don't recall what, but then he produces.... a rocket lolly. We were in awe, turns out a member of staff had overheard his requests, knowing booze was not allowed, one of the staff had ran out and bought a box of rocket lollies from the nearest shop that had them!

This is why The Christie's became such an important part of the fundraising we do in his name. My family's page we set up for it all (that this just giving is linked to), the money raised is split between cancer research and the end of life ward he was on, the level of care and love that the staff showed to all the patients was astounding, they made my Dads final days a lot more peaceful, and I could never thank them enough.

Thank you all for any and all donations you can spare, it does not only mean a lot to me, but to all those families that have loved ones either fighting cancer, or who are unfortunately on that ward. But never the less all money raised is going to help those that need it.

Much love, Kez.
